When calling information numbers, the operator answering will usually begin in French with "Bonjour!" (Good Day!). Answer "Bonjour!" and slowly ask your question in English if you feel more at ease.

Often, in this age of voice mail, you will get an electronic message. Don't hang up if it is in French; most public institutions offer an English text which will follow the French.
