stamps, forward packages, etc.
There are also substations located in pharmacies and "dépanneurs"

ELECTRONIC
MEDIA |
|
Montreal's residents have access to a large number of electronic
media. There are four local English TV channels and four French.
All American networks are available from Plattsburgh N.Y. and Burlington,
Vermont, either by antenna or cable. Best coverage of local news,
in English or French, on radio and television is offered during
the breakfast, lunch and going home shows. Canada's national broadcasting
corporation is CBC. Call CBC/Radio-Canada for information on both TV and radio programs in
French and English at 597-6000.
Americans can tune in to National Public Radio from Vermont (107.9
FM).
The yellow pages of Montréal's
phone directory list the city's English and French radio stations.
Television listings can be found daily in '' The Gazette'' newspaper.
|
BANKS |
|
|
The schedule "B" banks are smaller, sometimes foreign
owned banks.
Most trust companies also offer full consumer financial services.
The ''Desjardins'' movement of Co-operative Financial Institutions, locally
controlled and administered, oper-ates as ''Caisses populaires / centres
de services'' on the West Island. Check the Business pages of the phonebook
under ''Caisses populaires Desjardins''.
Banking institutions compete for your business, so it pays

Getting information.
When calling information numbers, the operator answering will usually
begin in French with "Bonjour!" (Good Day!). Answer "Bonjour!"
and slowly ask your question in English if you feel more at ease.
Often, in this age of voice mail, you will get an electronic message. Don't
hang up if it is in French; most public institutions offer an English text
which will follow the French.
